Nestled in Northeast Portland, this historic revival home had beautiful original leaded glass windows and even moments of art deco glass block, but the kitchen was dark and felt disconnected from the dining room. Our first move was to bring more light into the kitchen with larger windows and open up the main circulation paths with arched openings, connecting the kitchen to the dining room and sitting nook. This family of three asked for color and pattern and true to their personalities were not afraid of bold moments. We used Calacatta Viola marble countertops, patterned tile and a through-line bullnose trim detail to outline special moments in the casework bridging traditional forms with a modern sensibility.
